Why Take SFA?

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Having the skills to recognize emergency medical situations in adults, children and infants and to be able to perform critical first aid is important for parents, babysitters, teachers, workers, volunteers and anyone else who would like to be able to help during a medical crisis.

In this 16 hour (two day) course, you will learn how to recognize medical emergencies and intervene to help prevent the situation from getting worse.

As of September 1, 2018, Red Cross Emergency and Standard First Aid are considered equivalent to Occupational First Aid Level 1 for workplace occupational first aid attendants under the Health and Safety Regulations.  Some of the added benefits of taking a Red Cross EFA or SFA course are:

  • Certification is transferable between provinces and recognized nationally for workplace requirements.
  •  Successful participants are issued three-year certification in EFA/SFA and CPR with recertification options (no need to take the full course over).  OFA Level 1 requires candidates to take the entire course again every three years.
  • OFA Level 1 only offers Level A CPR (adult only), whereas Red Cross EFA/SFA typically includes Level C CPR (adult, child and infant).
